HIST - 2441 City & Citizen in Latin America
Description
This seminar-style course introduces students to the craft of historical research and writing through the study of cities in modern Latin America, from the nineteenth century to the present period. We will explore cities as arenas for citizenship, interrogating them as spaces of inclusionand exclusion for non-elite groups. Discussions about segregation and inequality, social movements, and different forms of citizenship will feature prominently in our course. Writing assignments will include primary source analyses, weekly responses, and a final research project.
